Sigh... Tomorrow is Saturday, but there'll be no Fate/zero. How disappointing.

So, first half's done. As the only person here who's finished both Fate/stay night and Fate/zero, I'm curious to what everyone else's impressions and thoughts are and whether there's anything I can make clearer that isn't a Fate/zero spoiler.

So, Fate/Prototype.

ufotable is really good at making awesome previews for things that will never exist.

And I hope they make more Carnival Phantasm, because it would be mean to end with teases like this.

I was of the understanding that this was an AU of F/S Night. Or what it was originally supposed to be.

Anycase, I'm pretty clear on what's going on. I have to say, I'm very impressed. Rider is my favorite character and I hope he and his master get together, have cookies, and then take over the world and see the ocean. Saber has a long way to go in terms of understanding what it's like to be a leader. She and her Master are very... distant from eachother. She seems to have a better connection with his wife.

Also, someone needs to give her a map and tell her that Brittannia is okay. Like, seriously. She's angsty about this and no one has seen fit to inform her that there's nothing for her to be angsty about. She doesn't need the grail for it!

Yes, Fate/Prototype is basically what Fate/stay night was originally going to be. I don't think it got to the point where it's fully fleshed out like Kara no Kyoukai (which is considered a prototype for Tsukihime), which is why it doesn't exist.

I don't know if I've mentioned it before, but Kiritsugu is my favourite character and he's the main character for reasons that may not be obvious to people who haven't gone through Fate/stay night. The thing about Fate/ is that it's about ideology and ideals and the reason that Saber and Kiritsugu can't get along is because their ideologies conflict with each other. Kiritsugu recognizes this right from the very beginning, which is why he lets Irisviel take care of Saber and makes every effort to avoid interacting with her.

Actually, Britannia isn't okay at all, since it doesn't exist anymore. Remember that King Arthur was fighting against the Anglo-Saxon invaders. Eventually, the Anglo-Saxons won and displaced the Britons. The modern day United Kingdom is descended from the Anglo-Saxons, while the Britons obviously got subsumed into the various larger kingdoms.

You know, I actually know *very* little about the King Arthur mythology, so I didn't know that. I'm sure I'll find out soon enough since I'm taking a course in Arthurian Literature, but that makes sense.

March 7 is approaching, which means the first BD box, if you've got the monies to throw at it.

It's quite a classy looking box too. Of particular note is the inclusion of Caster fun times.

And just in time for the release, here is someone who knows a lot more about this stuff than I do spelling out the reasoning, results, and implications of the Aniplex experiment thus far.

The situation is even worse than that. The conquerors of Britannia couldn't hold it either. They lost it to the Normans, Frenchified Vikings, in 1066. The Normans then conquered Wales which was the last stronghold of the Britons.

Would you believe me if I said that the first half hadn't contained any of Fate/Zero's truly awesome stuff?
referred to frigging Itano circuses.

I missed this show so much.

And yeah, Kiritsugu was awesome this episode.
SAIKYOU NO COOL!
Everything about this episode was so great I have a hard time deciding what I liked most. Even the CG was great. That OP. That ED. That Goldy. That Tokiomi. That cliffhanger (though I already know what's going to happen). ****, what is there of NOT awesome? Someone help me find a way to manage until next weekend.

This more than makes up for that ****ing awful Gyo OVA.

Actually, I don't like the new OP very much, partly because I loved the first one and partly because I don't like Kalafina.

In case anyone is wondering how Gilgamesh has a Protoss ship in his treasury, it should be pointed out that it's actually an ancient Hindu flying machine.

Fate/Zero has the amazing ability to make me hate Gilgamesh and Tohsaka more and more each episode. I am really pulling for Kariya to knife him or something.

Rider and Waver are still the best characters though, even if Lancer is such a huge bro.
Another strong episode. Whatever Gil thinks about him, I always found Tokiomi to be one of the most interesting characters, with far more tragedy potential than, say, Kiritsugu. Nice to see they didn't shove his big moment off into the corner, then. The way scenes are structured in this ep is actually really great, particularly how Gil moves. I was kind of hoping he'd materialize behind Kirei with arms around his neck or something. Ah well.
Also: The Faces are pure Comedy Gold.
