So the other day, I was lounging on my couch, half asleep, and this commercial comes on. But it's not just any commercial, it's an ANIME style commercial! For a cell phone?!
Apparhently Team Mobile's picked up on the anime vibe, and they've started using a little mascot named Johnny Chase to do it. Anyone else slightly amused? Hopefully this'll mean more stuff like this? Or are you guys all freaked out that team mobile's gone too far this time?

But the other day, I was at "Simons" and I was totally freaked out...
There was a lot of clothing that looked exacly like the ones in some anime...
Maybe in a couple of years, we'll see people dressed like Heero Yuy walking down the streets :eyebrow:
brrrrrrr.. better not to think about it....

Very interesting I must say, but considering anime is getting to be well accepted here, I would say in 2-3 years we could see more of these advertisements. In 5-8 years we may even have an Anime cable channel...I mean, they already have G4, TV for gamers...

Hmmm....I think they are doing that right now, you can see usually see them around hotels and restaurants near an anime convention near you ;)

I hate it. Absolutally. What right do they have of getting little kids attention with 'dragonball z' characters? Its not right. NO MORE ANIME COMMERCIALS!

I think that I've seen the commercial too. To me it looked like they were advertising for a spiffy little color PDA that had the screen flip-up; saw something like that last year (was monochrome). The most that I can remember from it was, "service starting at 30 dollars." Probably the part they didn't want you to notice... but oh well. Still waiting for that Anime Network to get beyond Phillie and NYC.

I actually found the animation quality quite good! As long as they portray a high quality look to anime, I'm cool. I remember another commerical, a public service thingy I think, which has an anime look to it but is badly done. Now THAT made me cringe....

Um... You mean the 1800s European School Uniforms, or the 1980s California Chic?

(Or am I wrong. I thought that made up 90% of the clothes in anime....)

Snicker, you forgot the close-fitting space suits and white tuxedos.

I haven't seen it. Oh wait ... you'd need cable for that, wouldn't you? Maybe I should call my cable company again ... it'll feel weird dialing their number and not razzing them about getting my DSL hooked up.

I just saw the commercial, and I thought it was pretty well done. But for some strange reason when I saw the "hero" he reminded me of Vash...

That's cool. But since I'm in Canada, I can't see it :( I havn't even heard of Team Mobile.

On the other hand, if it's cool to see an anime-style commercial, wouldn't it be even cooler to se a commercial about God? And I don't mean foolish imitation with everything messed up, I mean the REAL God. Now that would be cool.

Sorry if I derailed the thread.

Yes, it would. But I agree, it would have to be done in the right way.

Ha! I'd like to see the politically correct, tolerant "god"...it'd probably be just a big white screen with black text, since we wouldn't want to show him as a male (to offend feminists/wiccans) or acknowledge him as the supreme deity (to offend atheists), or call him Jesus (to offend non-Christians)...no, I'd say it's better that commercialism keep it's grubby paws of the face of my Savior.

Hmmm...I can't speak for Master Kenzo, but I was thinking more along the lines of a commercial FOR God (outreach) than a commercial that used God to promote something else. But again, it would have to be REAL, yet done carefully.
