I've never read those, but I have read Identical by the same author, which was truly a work of art.

I've only read Crank, which I thought was quite compelling and well-written (easy to read without being bland/oversimplified/preachy) and a fairly admirable attempt at exploring the very difficult and charged subject of drug addiction. There were admittedly parts where it got a little melodramatic in my mind, but it never reached Go Ask Alice levels of "God, I don't buy this at all" reactions. I'll have to check out the next two books (which I've heard are better).
