Javascript based manga viewer

Postby Alcuinus » Sat May 29, 2010 10:07 am

ok so here it is. Basically the following is a manga viewer you can use for any mangas you may make. I tried to make it versatile so it can be used for any manga where strict url path conventions are followed and the general size of each page is about the same as the first. To use this web app, you need to provide it with part of the url for the first image. I've used probably my all time favorite Christian manga, Thy Name by Psycho Ann as a working example :jump:

the url for the image of the first page for Thy Name is

http://www.theproject.us/othercomics/oneshot/thy1.jpg

the parts that are needed to view this manga with the viewer are

url_base: http://www.theproject.us/othercomics/oneshot/thy
and
number of pages: 14

The resulting url for the viewer is:
http://home.earthlink.net/~jwmarikle/sitebuildercontent/sitebuilderfiles/mangaviewer.html#url=http://www.theproject.us/othercomics/oneshot/thy&pages=14

Yeah kinda long, which is why I tinyed it :P

http://tinyurl.com/jsmangaviewer#url=http://www.theproject.us/othercomics/oneshot/thy&pages=14

If you want to host the viewer on your own site and hard code the path and number of pages, you can.
or if someone wants to host the viewer somewhere else so that the tinyurl would not have to be used, that'd be great too! :D

Hope someone can use it :)

note: sometimes the formatting is messed up, idk why. refreshing the page usually helps and it is best viewed in FF

Update:

New site (via webs... which is the only free hosting site that I could find for the life of me that lets you build your own page, HTML and all, from the ground up)

http://jsmangaviewer.webs.com/

example usage:
http://jsmangaviewer.webs.com/?url=http://www.theproject.us/othercomics/oneshot/thy&pages=14

Change Log:
- fixed the bug that required you to refresh the page to properly view it (js doesn't like to wait for things [i.e. image loading] before moving on in the function apparently)
- it now pre-loads the next page while you're viewing, so when you change pages (as long as you don't flip through the pages too fast) it should be instantaneous.

Problems/bugs/errors
- can't use forms on the free version of webs, so text input for page number is not possible atm :\

PS I forgot to mention you can click both sides of the page to go forward/back
