*steps out of the shadows*
Did someone say metal? Only one of my most favorite genres in the business.
Favorite band: It's a tossup between Demon Hunter, Haste the Day and Flyleaf
Favorite album: Tough one. I guess it's a tie between Storm the Gates of Hell by DH and Long Way Down by HTD
Favorite songs: There's too many to list here.
Favorite metal type: I like it all. No real preference.
I would be honored if you would add me.

wow... I am so psyched to find this thread! I've been on CAA for months now and this is the first time I've seen a metal thread... ^_^;
Anyways, I'm not the metalhead of the family, my mom is, but she likes everything from Cradle of Filth & Atreyu to Norma Jean and Demon Hunter... I have found a number of awesomely unknown (to us) Christian metal bands to turn her onto, so... thank you guys!!! :D
as for me... I like some metalcore... Demon Hunter, Project 86, old school Metallica, some Coheed and Cambria, a little Disturbed... you know, the pretty well known stuff... I used to be much more hardcore, but I mellowed after having kids. :)

Now that would be interesting!

... You would *THINK* so... but, try getting a call on your cell phone, just as you get back to work from lunch, with your mom saying "It's an emergency!!!"
... then finding out that the "emergency" is that the "Monsters of Chaos Tour" has tickets going on sale, and she needs your VISA card to buy them from ticketmaster.com...
*sigh*
On the upside, we got to see DamagePlan in concert at Livestock (a rock festival) the year before Dimebag Darrell was killed... we felt fortunate, since even though he was certainly not a man of God, God had given him a tremendous musical talent... and he was snuffed out before coming to the Lord...

My mom listens to a lot of the stuff I like (even stuff like Eluvietie) .... of course she also likes Britney Spears and Jonas Brothers so... there goes her credibility.

Duplicate, phonebooth.

The two bands me and my Dad can both agree on are Maylene and mewithoutYou.
Oh and for some reason he likes The Chariot, but hates Norma Jean (even the Scogin stuff).

I love Seventh Day Slumber, Skillet, 12 Stones, and Thousand Foot Krutch. And probably several others. XD

Christianrock.com is awesome --plays a lot of good rock music.

My mom tends to like the most off the wall stuff, though... she listens to both Christian and secular metal. She loves Disturbed and Cradle of Filth, but won't listen to black metal because of the satanic ties.

I personally like Thousand Foot Krutch, but they're more punk than metal, I'd say. :)

What exactly is the difference between Black and Death metal? I always thought Cradle of Filth was pretty much black/death metal band.

Death/black seems to be used interchangeably so I've always been confused what the difference is.

Again, a legal download site. The actual band posted the music up there.

BTW, TeeLay, how are your new songs coming? I am interested in hearing them!

Band's dead.
I quit because me and the rythym guitarist couldn't get along and he kicked our lead out just because our lead was better than him.

So they had to find a replacement vocalist for me.
They played a show with the replacement and pretty much got booed off so they hung up the towels.

We recently booted up the band again and started writing more songs, but me and the rythym guitarist got in yet another huge fight so the band is officially dead for good.

I have other projects going, and I'll put stuff up as soon as possible.

Well, I am sorry to hear that. Best of luck to you on your future endeavors.

Listen to this song, too! I posted here about these guys a while back, and I guess no-one noticed (or everyone hated them XD). Here is my personal favorite song on their CD.

You can download their whole album from last.fm as well, if I am not mistaken.

So basically... not much difference if any at all.

And Cradle of Filth isn't that bad IMO... well, I loooove Nymphetame. However I refuse to buy their stuff cause of that one album of theirs with the EXTREMELY offensive title.. forgot what it was exactly and I don't care to remember it.

I, personally, don't care for Cradle of Filth, although I have friends that like them enough.

I have been listening to the old Zao (Self-Titled and Liberate Te Ex Inferis) back when they were on Solid State Records. Pretty solid stuff. If I would have been introduced to this music back then, I could see it having changed my taste sooner. (I started w/ worship music, then got into Newsboys, then gradually went harder and heavier until I started listening to Metalcore, Black, and Death metal)

Explains it. :D

Anyways, I love Zao.
Only thing I don't like is the lack of range in the vocals.

Some of the earliest bands back in the late 80's and early 90's were pretty similar and influenced each other a lot (same with thrash), but these days, they are quite different. If you haven't listened to much of any extreme metal, then I doubt you'd be able to tell the difference very well anyways.

I think Terminate Damnation is one of my favorite Christian metal albums. I liked BTA but I didn't like like them at first-- I had only heard Physics, y'see. Terminate is wonderful, though. Both are good but I prefer TD.

I recently started getting into War of Ages and Impending Doom after going to the Scream the Prayer tour. I really didn't like Impending Doom when I heard their music on MySpace, but something clicked at the show, and they're growing on me. Their new video is pretty cool, too.

Wikipedia says it's Arigato! unless you're talking about something even more recent than October '07. I haven't heard that album personally, but I dug his first solo album (self titled) bigtime.
