Nintendo seemed to have copied Microsoft's plan on the consoles: Close to the release of the new system, let the old one die.
Nintendo has normally supported their systems past the release of the new ones, but they all but cut off the Gamecube (a dual release for Twilight Princess doesn't count) and now they're letting the Wii die.
In general, their attitude is "We're Nintendo. We saved gaming, and we can do whatever the crap we want."
