01/07/2012: Gigavine [ Already Rated ]

This anime was excellent. I am rating this title a ten because I cannot rate it 9.67, which it is to me. I love it how this anime shows how the little people really can do big things. This review is of the subbed version.

Violence: 3.25/10. Details: The most intense violence happens on the layer between the angels. This is typically just martial arts and occasionally some blasts. Outside the layer, Tamayo often uses martial arts on Kotaro, and Mr. Icchan is often giving penalty games, somewhat cruel and very unusual punishments, to his fellow worker Masaharu Ogata for every little bad thing he does. These include but are certainly not limited to: an octopus in his pants, eating a snow cone in three seconds, and eating spaghetti out of his nose. The penalties are not violence to me, but if anyone is sensitive to watching torture, even in the mildest of settings, YOU HAVE BEEN WARNED!!!

Nudity/Negative Sexuality: 2.01/10. Details: The absolute worst the nudity gets is in a beach episode with bathing suits including some bikinis. And also, Mr. Icchan forces Mr. Ogata to lay down in the hot summer sun in his underpants as a penalty game. Other than that, some of the angels and in one episode, a human, wear midriff shirts. And Misaki, due to her expert cooking skills, is told by her own aunt and another girl that they want her to be her wife. But it is obvious that this is nothing more than a joke.

Negative Theological Elements: 1.85/10. Details: Only three contents I picked up are worthy of being implied as issues. The first is that the master of any angel is called a Deus (Latin for god), but this term is redefined to simply mean what it is in the anime. Second, one angel's name is Wizard, who supposedly has magic powers. But these powers are later discovered to be just static electricity based. Third, the greatest angel in the Angelic Layer game is named after the Greek goddess Athena.

Other Negative Elements: 2.15/10. Details: There is the use of d*** only a few times in all twenty-six episodes, and the Lord's name is taken in vain about ten times or less throughout the whole series.

July, 2011: TheMewster [ Already Rated ]

On the Theological content, the masters of the 'angels' (battle dolls) are called Deuses. I just realized yesterday that Deus means God (I think, PM me, TheMewster, if I'm wrong.) I almost gave the series a 7 in Theology just for that. I know that by CAA standards I should give this a two or three but that just offends me so much! God bless!
