Review Note on Sexual Content:
A male and a female character in-game grow close but in real life both players are female and once they meet outside the game, it's hinted at that they start a relationship. Absolutely nothing objectionable is shown on screen.

spoilerThe characters are Tsukasa and Subaru but due to Tsukasa's memory loss she doesn't even know for most of the series that she is in fact a girl.

Review Theological Themes: I wouldn't say that it's necessarily magic or supernatural but Tortov does meet a number of strange creatures, though they seem to be a relatively natural part of the world the story is set in.

Negative Themes: In one of the special DVD episodes Tortov eats some berries that prove to be hallucinogenic. Given the surreal nature of the show though, it's not even 100% clear which parts of what is shown is due to the berries.

Review Violence / Gore: A lot of deaths are shown onscreen and since they're usually the deaths of people fighting titans they are graphic. There's lots of blood from both humans and titans and half eaten or broken bodies are shown regularly.

Nudity / Sexual Content: The titans are all nude, but have barbie doll anatomy and a few have no skin. They're not portrayed in a sexualized way at all.

Theological Themes: There is a religious cult who worship the walls, they're seen as fanatic but growing in influence.

Negative Themes: A few cases of alcohol use. The show is generally dark, lots of trauma and death, although there are a few breakthroughs from the hopelessness and they tend to be epic.

Review Note on Theological Themes:
The alchemists obtain the Elixir of Immortality by "summoning" what they call a "demon". This being tells them outright that he is not a "demon" though and the "summoning ritual" they performed has no meaning/power. In the light novels it is further revealed that he is Spoiler: a very old alchemist, who learned too much.

Review
Violence / Gore: Well Mirai can manipulate her own blood and uses it to fight, so naturally there's a lot of that. There are physical and magical battles against youmu, a number of stabbings and a few instances of high blood spray.

Nudity / Sexual Content: Hiroomi has a sister complex and Akihito has a glasses-girl fetish. Hiroomi also teases Akihito in a flirtatious way, but it's not major. There is an episode with a number of shower scenes with all the characters (showering separately) and naked bottoms are seen briefly. Mirai gets a job dressing up for cosplay photos which Ayaka sells to customers: fanservice ensues.

Theological Themes: Most of the characters are youmu hunters who fight youmu (spirits or supernatural monsters/creatures) and can use various forms of magic/powers, the magic system isn't well defined or explained. Humans can be half-youmu and be possessed by youmu.

Negative Themes: Nothing I recall.

Review Violence / Gore: There are martial arts based fights, most of which include the use of magic. Guns are used by several characters, ranging anywhere from handguns to tanks. Aika's death is a prominent plot point and the scene with her covered in blood, although somewhat stylized, is shown repeatedly. Blood spray is shown when two characters get seriously injured.

Nudity / Sexual Content: All the girls and even some of the guys are subject to fanservice. Nakedness is of the strategically covered variety. Hakaze is completely naked at one point but it's related to plot and not purely fanservice.

Theological themes: The people from the Kusaribe Clan can use magic by sacrificing any man-made items to the Tree of Genesis. The Tree of Genesis and the Tree of Exodus are two deities who express their will through and can also be influenced by their respective magicians. Hakaze is the Magician of Genesis.

Negative Themes: I don't remember anything specific.

Review Violence / Gore: The violence ranges from a monster eating someone off-screen and the bare bones seen afterwards to someone basically exploding from the inside with a lot of blood shown. People shoot other people with guns and there's some boxing and other fights. Some characters have powers of regeneration so most injuries are less serious than they could be.

Nudity / Sexual Content: There's all kinds of fanservice and innuendo and at least 2 counts of strategically covered nudity. Fuyumi ends up in (fanservice-y) outfits a few times and she is visibly uncomfortable wearing them.

Theological Themes: It's set in what's called the demon world, but there aren't any actual demons per se, the characters are what I'd rather call monsters: vampire, werewolf, ghost, zombie, Frankenstein's monster. A lot of them can use different kinds magic but it's not elaborated on how any of it works. Fuyumi is shown tied to a cross in the OP, but the situation doesn't feature at all apart from that one image.

Review Please note I watched this stretched out over a few months, so my memory of the first half isn't reliable.

Violence/Gore: There is about one fight every episode but it's mostly between robots, some robots resemble humans although most do not. That said the robot body count is huge and the violence involves them getting torn apart/impaled/crushed/stabbed etc. Robots with human-like bodies will bleed realistically for the injuries they sustain.

Spoiler: When Casshern is injured he can regenerate but with a great deal of pain. It's particularly intense when he gets beaten up severely.

Nudity/Sexual content: In a dream episode Lyuze goes home with a man/robot and it's implied that she may have had sex with him, but not even that is very clear. In the same episode she and another female character are seen naked but it's stylized, barbie doll level of detail and not meant as fan service.

Theological & Negative themes: Death is a very prominent theme in this series, but the important thing is how different characters deal with it, whether it's with hope or despair or anything in between. Spoiler: Some characters are or achieve immortality.

Review Violence / Gore: The first episode should give you a good idea of the violence content as it has a mutant unicorn exploding into blood and guts everywhere. The more bloody fights usually involve monsters/beasts rather than people though. There are battles with swords, magical guns and other weapons. A girl gets stabbed in the head and is later seen lying in a pool of blood. A murdered tortures people to death, but only the aftermath is seen, not the act itself.

Nudity / Sexual Content: One of Gillette's team members wears really short pants that are closer to being just underwear and there are a few other characters with skimpy clothing. Akari makes jokes about Toru being perverted or about them being in an "incestuous" relationship. They are not blood relatives at all though.

Theological Themes: The evil emperor defeated before the start of the show was said to be immortal. There is magic used which manifests as a blue patterned circle in the air. The magic is worked using incantations and magical fuel, which can be a number of things, and is used to power magical weapons or vehicles.

Negative Themes: Minor swearing.

Review Violence / Gore: There are some fights between characters, with a little blood. Most of the girls in the show are violent towards the guys but it's usually played for laughs. The haunted house exhibit at the school festival is fairly gory, for example showing someone with bleeding eye-sockets or his internal organs exposed, obviously these are all costumes for the exhibit.

Nudity / Sexual Content: A few instances of the guys trying on one of their sisters' clothes/underwear (I don't know if that was supposed to be sexual because I didn't find it that way but I don't know how someone else'd view it). There's a beach episode with people in beach appropriate attire. The school festival segment has a very brief shot of a boy's rear. A boy is sad because his parents found his porn stash, it's not elaborated on any further than that. Guys look up a girl's skirt.

Theological themes: I don't remember anything of note.

Negative Themes: Some swearing. A guy remembers how he was bullied as a kid. A girl is deeply ashamed of having been a notorious bully when she was younger.

Review Violence / Gore: On par for a survival/murder show, people get killed off in a myriad of creative ways so there's a lot of violence and blood. The blood is coloured bright pink though, which sort of offers some degree of censorship.

Nudity / Sexual Content: One of the girls' top is quite low cut, one of the guys is seen in the shower briefly and there's one case of cross-dressing.

Negative Themes: There's some swearing and it can be rather depressing at times and has a prominent theme of hope vs. despair.

Review Violence / Gore: Two of the boys get into a (minor) fight.

Nudity / Sexual Content: A lot of fanservice consisting of the boys seen in swimwear at least once an episode, ranging from wetsuits to speedos. They're mostly seen in swimming trunks sans shirts though. At one point some of them skinny dip but nothing is seen below the waist.

The series has a good bit of yaoi subtext that you can decide if you want to take seriously or not, the show certainly likes to make fun of itself and fans in this regard. There's no actual yaoi content. Spoiler: There is an almost CPR moment between two of the guys. Obviously CPR doesn't actually constituent anything sexual, but given the subtext of the show some people could certainly view it as a teasing a kiss.

Theological Themes: Japanese shrines.

Review Violence / Gore: Most of the violence stem from people abusing their psychokinesis against other people/beings, mostly to tear them apart or incinerate them. Generally the violence scenes cut away from the act and then show an aftermath shot, which usually entails blood splatter. The first episode starts off with such a scene, so one could watch that and get a good idea of how the violence is depicted in this series. The "blood aftermath splatter" count is quite high and some injuries/attacks are shown in more detail. Monster rats fight amongst themselves, both on a formal war and a more primitive animal level.

Nudity / Sexual Content: The kids learn that their society utilises, to a degree, behaviour displayed by the Bonobo chimpanzee in which sex is used as stress relief and conflict resolution. When faced with such an option however, two characters decide to go against their instincts. Part of incorporating Bonobo behaviour is that young adolescents are encouraged to have same sex relationships and heterosexual relationships are not allowed until adulthood. This is most prominent in episode 8, with kissing, French kissing and fondling between same sex couples. There’s brief, undetailed nudity in the second ED. The monster rat queens have three pairs of breasts that are uncovered, but they are more akin to a cow’s udder than a human breast. For further reading, TheSubtleDoctor has an interesting article, “On the Use of Sex in the Dystopian Society of Shinsekai Yori” on his blog here: http://rayoutblog.wordpress.com/2013/05/03/on-the-use-of-sex-in-the-dystopian-society-of-shinsekai-yori/

Theological themes: The monster rats see and refer to the humans as gods. There are several ceremonies and rituals linked to the use and control of psychokinesis, but it’s unclear if these are specifically meant to be spiritual.

Negative Themes: This series is dark in general and while I've tried to set out the content as straight forward as I can, some of it can be more disturbing than when plainly stated because of the foreboding and suspenseful atmosphere. Some of the visuals are downright surreal. Monster rats are seen and treated as little better than animals.

Review Violence / Gore: Battles in airships and mech suits, lots of explosions. In one episode a bad guy starts shooting into a crowd of people injuring and killing a lot of them, a lot of blood is shown.

Nudity / Sexual Content: All the girls are subject to some fanservice. Kazuki is shown in her underwear and in the shower, if I remember correctly one of the other girls walks in on her, and in another instance all the girls jump in the bath with Anna. Strategically covering steam is applied.

Review Violence / Gore: It's mostly Ledo fighting with beam weapons and a couple of standoffs with people pointing guns at each other. At one point a lot of people are vaporized. Battles against Hideauze, and there are several, are more graphic with floating blood and flesh pieces.

Nudity / Sexual Content: There's a "beach" episode with people in bathing suits. In the same episode Ledo is chased around by a group of cross-dressing men, played for laughs. A few of the girls wear relatively revealing clothes and Amy and her friends perform a dance in one episode that is rather fanservice laden.

Theological themes: The characters meet a fleet of ships with their whole society structured around their religious cult. The cult carries out human sacrifice via drowning.
Gatchaman Crowds (Jump to title)
- Overall: 8
- Violence Rating: 5
- Nudity Rating: 3
- Theological Themes: 3
- Other Negative Themes: 2
Review Violence / Gore: There are several instances of "real world" violence, even if they don't exactly happen because of a "real world" reason, like car accidents, a tunnel that collapses and a man stabbing people. Some of the later Gatchaman fights are more brutal and bloody, although not overly graphic. Rui gets beaten up quite badly at one point.

Nudity / Sexual Content: Utsu-tsu walks around in her underwear (possibly a bikini) almost constantly and Rui cross dresses whenever he goes out. Berg-Katze's power involves kissing whomever, men or women, he wants to impersonate. O.D. is rather camp gay. Rui is seen sitting in the shower in one episode.

Theological Themes: Each NOTE is said to be the manifestation of that particular Gatchaman's soul. One character has the ability to drain or restore the life energy of any living thing.

Negative Themes: Jou smokes. Some swearing.

Review Violence / Gore: A sentient fairy bread tears itself open and a red substance sprays out, it's not blood though. A character violently stabs a doll that, to her, is basically a stand in for another character.

Nudity / Sexual Content: Episode 3 deals with a character discovering and publishing yaoi manga and a whole yaoi subculture develops with multiple publishing groups and a convention. The most shown is shirtless men on the covers. Watashi meets a 13 year old who makes lewd comments and touches her breasts briefly, she freaks out and threatens him with a lawsuit. It’s implied that the boy Spoiler: is her grandfather as a kid, so that makes it a little weirder. Watashi is shown very briefly in the shower, no detail is seen. The fairies are also shown naked, but they're completely featureless.

Theological themes: When she first meets them the fairies see Watashi as a god.

Negative Themes: Cigar smoking, swearing, skinned chickens... exist. A fairy develops narcotics and one or two instances of drunkenness.

Review I saw this a long time ago, so this review is not complete and only covers what I can remember.

Violence / Gore: A young girl is part of a terrorist group and ends up being a suicide bomber. The military/police clash violently with anti-government protesters. A girl is devoured by a pack of wolves, it’s mostly off screen though and Spoiler: happens in a dream. People are shot apart with machine guns, this scene is where the most blood is shown. Throughout the film an older version of Little Red Riding Hood is told that is more violent and disturbing than the traditionally better known one.

Negative Themes: Some swearing

Review Violence / Gore: The battles are usually made up of a combination of powers and physical techniques. Various people get stabbed/cut, shot at, strangled and impaled, but the violence in relatively clean in terms of blood shown.

Nudity / Sexual Content: Some of the girls wear midriff bearing outfits as part of their shows and Tsukumo is shown in the shower very briefly with steam cover.

Negative Themes: A little alcohol use. The monsters, called varuga, sprout various kinds of deformities, for example abnormally long, clawed hands.

Review Violence / Gore: Sentarou gets into fights a good number of times, Kaoru a few times. Bruised/scuffed faces are about the worst shown.

Nudity / Sexual Content: The main characters go to the beach and the guys swim in their underwear, nothing more is shown than had they been in regular swimsuits. They're also seen in their underwear when having a medical check-up at school. When Yurika is introduced she's getting harassed by some guys. Yurika's parents assume she is having sex Spoiler: with Jun. Ritsuko accidentally sees Kaoru in the bath and they have a conversation through the door, he has towel/water cover. Some guys bully Kaoru and threaten to leave him tied to a statue with his pants down. Two instances of a girl being pushed to the floor by a guy, but it goes no further.

Theological themes: I was really pleasantly surprised concerning this, as both Ritsuko and Sentarou are Roman Catholic and attend church, I assume regularly, it's shown about twice in a show. Sentarou wears a rosary around his neck. It's not really discussed or expanded on in any way but it's nice to see characters portrayed as normal Christians in anime. There's one more point here but it's a pretty big spoiler for the last episode so you can PM me if you really want to know. It's a positive portrayal in the same vain as what's already been mentioned.

Negative Themes: Instances of swearing and alcohol consumption. Jun smokes, but stops Yurika from starting. There's one occurrence of racism where a drunk guy demands to listen to "white" jazz.

Review Violence / Gore: Koto (and her brothers to a degree) is rather violent and destructive, in one flashback she is shown beating up a kid in her school. There is a flashback involving a young boy committing suicide after the death of his parents (he does not succeed because of plot reasons) and both those events show blood. This flashback is shown more than once.

Nudity / Sexual Content: A bit of fanservice. Danji walks around in her apartment in her underwear and it's implied she and Myoue are sleeping together.

Theological Themes: The theology/mythology of the show is rather complex. For starters youkai exist in the Mirror Capital, there are monks and priests, a character has the power to make the things he draws come alive, one non-human character gets a human body from a bodhisattva and there are parallel worlds/planes of existence. There are very definite gods (as characters who interact with other characters) revealed later in the show, who are creators and overseers of reality. If any of this sounds vague it's because I'm trying to avoid spoilers and because some of it was confusing and needs to be re-watched.

Negative Themes: Some minor swear words.

Review The review is based on the 1 episode ONA that aired 1 Dec 2011. There is a 5 episode ONA too. A lot about the story is unclear/confusing so this review, especially the theological content, is very subjective according to how I understood it.

Violence / Gore: Sci-fi/magic battles with laser blasts, explosions and giant hammers.

Nudity / Sexual Content: A woman is seen in the underwear. One female character is kissed by another lady briefly. The former is upset and the latter apologises.

Theological themes: The story is set in a so-called mirror Kyoto, possibly an alternate reality. As stated there is a monk, a demon, and a priest. The monk and demon use magic to fight. People are asked about the deity of a local shrine but no one seems to have a clear idea who or what it is. People pray at said shrine. Possibly implications of reincarnation.

Review Note: This review includes the special DVD/BD only episode.

Violence / Gore: It's a war, so lots of gun use and people get shot, but injuries tend to be minor/non-lethal because of the combatants' body armour and the strict rules governing the conflict. Some blood is shown though. Someone gets caught in a fire. In the special episode Komaki is arrested by the MBC who try and force a confession out of him. He's tied to a chair in a freezing warehouse, not allowed to sleep and has water thrown in his face. It's pretty mild but is basically torture without the physically violence.

Nudity / Sexual Content: Some female characters are seen in the bath, a guy walks around in a towel but no details are seen. In the special episode a man is sexually harassing ladies in the library and the team set out to catch him.

Negative Themes: A little swearing and alcohol consumption, if I recall correctly.

Review I watched this show a very long time ago so I may not be giving a full account.

Violence/Gore: Mostly comedy/slapstick violence against Keitaro where he gets punched or attacked by one or more of the girls. Nosebleeds are the only occurrence of blood I remember.

Nudity/Sexual Content: This series has a lot of fan service, although not much full nudity. The girls bath in hot springs frequently but are covered in short towels, water or strategically placed steam.
Keitaro lands in various compromising scenes with the girls, such as walking in on each other in the bath/shower or falling onto each other in awkward positions. Keitaro occasionally lands with a hand or face on one of the girl's breasts by accident, which he promptly gets beaten up for.

Theological themes: There is some mention of ghosts and a possessed sword but it's not very prominent or important to the plot.

Review Violence / Gore: There's a decent amount of fighting, both normal and magic based, against both dungeon monsters and humans. There's a realistic amount of blood. A few of the more plot-related instances are showed in more detail e.g. a characters stabs himself or another character losing an arm. In both cases quite a lot of blood is shown. Cruelty to slaves features a lot.

Nudity / Sexual Content: Aladdin has an obsession with breasts, and will launch himself at anyone, female or male, with a significant pair. Given half a chance he'll grope them, but almost all the characters understandably object quickly. This happens about 4 or 5 times throughout the show. There are a couple of instances of nudity, but it's mostly non-sexual, for example, one character gets robbed of everything he owns so has to walk around with only a big leaf for cover. There are a few shots of bottoms. Aladdin's djinn, Ugo, wears only a loincloth and another female djinn is shown topless and in detail for several scenes in episode 5. Yamuraiha wears a seashell bikini/bra, which gets shattered at one point during a fight and she had to cover up with her arm. Sinbad is accused of sexually abusing a character while she was knocked out. Spoiler: He was set up and nothing happened between them.

Theological themes: The whole magic system of the world is connected to the Rukh, which is known as the home of souls and seems to be what makes up the world and also controls the world's natural processes. The Rukh appear as glowing bird-like entities. People who die transform into a number of Rukh and "return to the source"/fly off into the sky, occasionally their spirits can also be manifested in the Rukh. Magic is performed by giving orders to the Rukh who produce the physical action according to the order. All people have Magoi, Rukh energy, which can be exhausted when using magic. Going against the "guidance of the Rukh"/fate is known as "falling into depravity" and creates black Rukh. There is a power called the Wisdom of Solomon, which isn't seen in the anime much, but according to the manga it's Spoiler: the power of prophecy.

Negative Themes: Slavery plays a large role in the world and on a more personal lever for some characters. It’s realistically depicted as being awful.

Review For the sake of avoiding spoilers, this review is going to contain a lot of "someone did that/someone is this" etc.

Violence / Gore: Violence is generally limited to believable real world situations and little blood is shown. Someone falls down stairs, someone is hit by a car, someone is dragged behind a truck. On screen deaths are limited and non-gory. Terrorism is a plot point.

Nudity / Sexual Content: While not the most graphic show in this area, it's certainly pretty disturbing. There are three counts of attempted rape of/by characters who have been drugged and, depending on how you interpret the symbolism, it's implied that one character was sexually abused as a child by her father. Nudity is usually covered up though, or shown in silhouette. One character stalks someone else. One character is a lesbian or at least bisexual. The penguins, I think number 1 specifically, is always looking at pictures of scantily clad ladies, will steal women's underwear and do things like try to look up a woman's skirt.

Theological themes: The penguin hat spirit brings Himari back to life and possesses her from time to time. Other spirits also feature. Fate/destiny is a prominent theme.

Negative themes: Drugs are used, of the kind that knocks one out rather than makes one high. Child abuse/neglect is a strong theme later in the show. Most of the characters are not generally well adjusted people.

Review Violence / Gore: A gang of robbers/terrorists take control of a shopping mall and take people hostage. They and others later in the show use guns and people do get shot, with some blood seen. A character is hit by a truck and there’s a spray of stylised black blood. A character with super-strength beats up people. A character commits suicide by stabbing themselves, and another by leaping off a building. Kido often kicks or punches Kano and sends him flying.

Nudity / Sexual Content: A character strips down to his underwear in one episode.

Theological Themes: The kids all have different eye powers. Humans can be possessed, although the possessor mostly doesn't actually exert their will over the possessee, i.e. take over/control them. Characters who die don’t necessarily stay dead. I’m being vague to avoid spoilers.

Negative Themes: Some mild swearing.

Review This show is pretty clean.

Violence / Gore: A man is shot in the arm and attacked by birds and blood is shown. A woman is sick and coughs up some blood. A man is discovered to be murdering people by decapitation, but it’s not shown on screen.

Nudity / Sexual Content: There is a brief scene in which a mother is breastfeeding her baby.

Theological Themes: Mushi could probably be considered to be nature spirits, although they could maybe be considered to just be another type of natural living organism. However, they are able to have seemingly supernatural effects on people and are linked to/make up the River of Light or Light Vein which is a planet spanning mass of bright, gathered mushi. A mushi, or human or animal for that matter, who is in charge of the care or natural balance of a region is referred to as a god.

Negative Themes: Ginko constantly smokes cigarettes, the actual smoke of which repels mushi.

Review This is not a complete review since I saw the show too long ago but there's one thing I'd like to comment on.

Nudity / Sexual Content: In one of the first two (I think) episodes, Haru grabs Shizuku and threatens to rape her if she screams. He's not actually planning on doing anything to her and grabs her just to get her attention. Some people viewed it as a rape joke and decided that they couldn't continue the series in good conscience While I wouldn't necessarily disagree with anyone's opinion on that, my personal interpretation was that it was not intended to be a joke but a way to show that Haru has no normal social interaction skills.

Review Violence / Gore: Some of the youkai attack Natsume or each other, usually threatening to eat their victim. At least one youkai does get eaten but it's not particularly gory. Natsume's standard defense is to punch the youkai in the head. Very little blood.

Nudity / Sexual Content: Natsume and Natori go to a hot spring and are seen in towels.

Theological Themes: As stated in the premise, the series revolves around youkai and all the usual things that accompany them, like exorcisms, shrines, priests and youkai possessing people.

Negative Themes: Some minor swearing.

Kazama is seen naked from behind in a scene in which he’s climbing a mountain which is a representation of the battle he is fighting in a particular match.

Review Violence / Gore: Natsuki is violently tsundere towards Seki, punching him or throwing a trash can in his face. There is usually no justifiable reason for any of this and some blood is seen. There's an attempted suicide by the person wanting to throw themselves off a cliff.

Nudity / Sexual Content: There's a couple of "pervert" and boob jokes. Seki's fly is down at one point without his noticing and a bunch of the boys are seen in speedos at the pool. A bit of a spoiler related to the previous point Spoiler: a close up shot of Seki pulling his phone out of his speedo, which he put there since it was "the only pocket he had" during the swimming lesson. The kids go to the beach and are in swimwear.

Theological Themes: Characters either naturally have or can get telepathic/psychic powers. Some of these appear to be linked to animal familiars or objects. Spoiler: There's also time travel, which isn't necessarily theological but seems to be linked to the telepathy.

Review I watched this a while ago and just scanned through it again as a refresher, so there may be things that I missed, but either way it would be more of the same as below and this should give a viewer at least an idea of what to expect.

Violence / Gore: The violence is gory and can be very disturbing. The main police weapon is a gun that makes people or parts of people explode, which results in blood and guts seen frequently. Most of the crimes dealt with are violent and visceral and the show doesn't shy away from showing people getting beaten to death, burned or cut up. One serial killer turns the bodies of the victims into rather grotesque sculptures.

Nudity / Sexual Content: There are about four or five instances of nudity, always with some sort of “sensor cover”. A man kidnaps a woman and it’s implied that he raped her. Two of the women in the police force are in a relationship and are briefly seen in bed together.

Theological Themes: Not much theological content in the usual sense. The whole premise is build around the idea of an artificial intelligence determining a person’s state of being by certain parameters.

Negative Themes: There’s smoking, drinking, some drug use among criminals and some swearing. This is generally a dark show and many of the criminals are very twisted.

Theological themes: All the main characters have some sort of spiritual power, using spells or summoning "spiritaul agents"/ghosts. Ghosts and gods/goddesses appear in the show. Izumiko is the vessel of a "goddess" who can posses her for short periods. Spoiler: She's not really a goddess in the traditional sense.

Negative Themes: Parental abuse/neglect, it's heavily implied that Miyuki's dad beats him up quite badly at least once and Izumiko's mom isn't around for plot reasons. Izumiko gets drunk on fruit punch by accident.

Review Violence / Gore: After episode 7 the show undergoes a drastic shift in direction and ramps up the violence. Battles range all the way from fistfights to giant robots and there’s a fair amount of blood throughout. The most violent scenes include people’s limbs being severed, decapitation and characters being shot or stabbed in the chest. One villain King Torture lives up to his name, torturing characters on screen.

Nudity / Sexual Content: Hazama is shown naked a few times, his behind is seen but the rest is strategically covered. Moe (girl) has an obvious crush on Mari (girl) and they kiss a few times.

Theological Themes: A entity shows up in one episode calling itself the “Will of the Universe”.

Negative Themes: Some swearing. Gotou smokes throughout.

Review Violence / Gore: Farm violence; some of the upperclassmen slaughter chickens and the severed necks are shown, on Crunchyroll this was censored out with pixels, I don't know about elsewhere. A deer is killed accidentally by being hit by a car and the students watch a DVD of pigs being processed at a slaughterhouse and a good amount of blood is shown. It should be noted that these animals are killed for food as part of life on a farm.

Nudity / Sexual Content: The boys are seen in the bath about twice, some bottoms are seen. There's a misunderstanding which leads to people suspecting a guy of getting a girl pregnant.

Theological Themes: I think there was maybe one scene with people praying at a shrine.

Negative Themes: I'm putting this here for lack of a better place; there's a quite graphic depiction of a cow giving birth.

Review Violence / Gore: The violence, mostly consisting of cybody battles and a few kendo matches, is basically completely bloodless.

Nudity / Sexual Content: The Glittering Crux ladies tend to have very skimpy outfits. There are several cases of nudity, most notably when the boys are in the bath, when a maiden's seal is broken and in the second OP. It's usually strategically covered or un-detailed although a few butt shots are shown. A female character fantasizes about two male characters being in a relationship, these scenes are reminiscent of those between Kaoru and Hikaru from Ouran High School Host Club. There's a fair amount of innuendo and one character was born out of wedlock.

Theological themes: The cybodies are sealed away from reality by the Shrine Maidens and Wako is seen performing purifying rituals but it's not really elaborated on. Each driver has a different "super power"/ability known as a First Phase which they can use outside of Zero Time.

Negative Themes: Some alcohol use and a teacher gets drunk at a party. Some swearing.

Review Violence / Gore: There's a number of battles, mostly magical but some using modern-day weapons. Two characters get shot and there's an appropriate amount of blood. One character receives a gaping chest wound. At one point Emi gets captured by an enemy who tortures her with magic blasts. The girls visit a creepy haunted house exhibit at the theme park.

Nudity / Sexual Content: The theme park episode has people walking around in bathing suits. In this episode and others there are a few joke/comments made about Emi's breast size vs. Chi-chan's breast size. Maou fights a battle in nothing but his underpants. In the battle where Emi is tortured her captor unbuttons her top and threatens Chi-chan with molestation.

Theological themes: Maou is the Demon Lord of his home world Ente Isla and is known as Lord Satan. Several other characters are demons and angels from Ente Isla or members of the church of Ente Isla. Said church is portrayed as generally corrupt and ruthless. The Ente Isla characters use magic.

Negative Themes: There's some minor swearing.

Nudity / Sexual Content: There is some innuendo and sexual jokes, especially when it comes to Akadama sensei or the Ebisugawa twins. Benten strips naked to go swimming in one episode and Yasaburou, Yashirou and Akadama visit a bathhouse, nothing more than people's bottoms are seen.

Theological Themes: The existence of mythological creatures and their various powers of flight, shapeshifting etc. A conversation is held between two characters after one of them has apparently died. The characters visit a shrine.

Review Violence / Gore: The violence is mostly of the comedic variety. Characters fall into things, get punched and one gets shocked with a "perfectly safe stun gun".

Nudity / Sexual Content: I counted exactly 3 instances of strategically covered nudity. At one point Elsie unexpectedly joins Keima in the bath, the lights are off so initially he doesn't realise she's there but when he does, he immediately gets out and covers up. Elsie is covered by her magic shawl like a bikini or short top.
When two people are discussing another character, nudity is used to show her vulnerability in contrast to her outwardly "standoffish" attitude. Keima's mother is show in the bath.

Theological themes: It's all there in the premise of the show. The lost souls look kind of like ghosts and Elsie refers to Keima as "Divine One".

Negative themes: Some minor swearing.

Nudity / Sexual Content: Cleaner than season one. There's some general fanservice concerning the girls. Keima is shown nude in the last episode, but he's in chibi form and it's non-detailed and non-sexual.

Theological themes: See the premise. There's more explanation about the loose souls and the state of affairs in hell.

Negative themes: Some swearing.

Nudity / Sexual Content: More general fanservice than the previous season. Keima, in the nude, walks in on Haqua in the shower and in another instance sees Ayumi in the bath. Both cases are strategically censored. Yui and Keima cross-dress.

Theological Themes: Everything in the premise plus more of the same from seasons 1 and 2 plus a few more instances of magic/spells use.

Review Violence / Gore: Nike gets shot with an arrow and some characters sword fight. There’s also, shall we say, indirect violence where a person throws themself against a locked door to the point of injury. Little blood is shown.

Nudity / Sexual Content: There is some general fanservice, both male and female, and crude jokes, the latter often found in the conversations of Livi’s three elderly advisers, and an implied one night stand between Livi’s uncle and a random innkeeper lady. A male character pushes a female character down onto a bed but they’re both fully clothed and it goes no further. There is an age gap between Nike and Livi, although it’s never specified what either of their ages actually are, guesses range from 17-19 for Nike and 12-15 for Livi. Since there is almost no comment about it from anyone in the show itself, it seems to be seen as normal in their world/time period. In the ending song Livi is seen completely naked from behind.

Theological Themes: Nike and her family have the power to control the weather through song, mostly expressed in rain summoning.

Negative Themes: Minor swearing.

Review Violence / Gore: Some playful wrestling between the main characters. Rikuo and Masaki imagine an old robot exploding.

Nudity / Sexual Content: One of the regular customers wear's a low cut dress and Masaki catches Rikuo staring at her a few times.

Review This is a personal favourite of mine and I will break my "content only" review rule to say that everyone should watch this show.

Violence / Gore: Akira and other members of Duck carry guns. A stray missile blows up some buildings. A few quick martial arts fights. No blood is shown.

Nudity / Sexual Content: Coco goes around in a bikini for the duration of the show. Haru is briefly shown in the bath but there’s strategic cover censorship.

Theological Themes: There is a legend on the island about a five headed dragon and the goddess who vanquished him which plays into the plot of the show, but doesn’t involve a supernatural element per se. Japanese shrines/temples feature a little.

Negative Themes: 2 Minor swearing.

Review Violence / Gore: There are lots of space mecha battles as par for the genre but people are also shot and stabbed with lots of blood shown. An incident in the first episode is probably the most graphic. Other notable cases are showing the aftermath of a person caught in an explosion and a person in a space suit contorting and the visor filling up with blood.

Nudity / Sexual Content: The girls are shown in the bath/shower a few times, their bottoms are shown but the rest is covered, and a girl is shown for a second randomly fondling a (female) teacher. There's a semi-graphic rape scene, and it's handled really weirdly by the characters involved afterwards. I want to elaborate on this a little so spoiler warning:

spoilerHaruto rapes Saki when when he goes into Valvrave-berserk mode and so she doesn't really resist and later says she doesn't blame him. He feels guilty about it and asks her to marry him. None of their reactions feels realistic and it's not really portrayed in a negative light. The little Valvrave program avatar thing (makes sense if you've seen this far) also reacts with excitement during the scene which is horrible and crass IMO.

Theological themes: First episode spoilers Spoiler: the Valvrave turns you into a space vampire who, so far, seems to be immortal, healing almost instantly from fatal injuries.

Review Violence / Gore: There are a number of sci-fi battles with laser blasts and explosions. Two characters fight with sword-like laser weapons.

Nudity / Sexual Content: Natsuki has a habit of lifting up the tail of some of the alien creatures they meet to look at their behind, it's not of a sexual nature though. The female star of the Space Show occasionally wears low cut tops. The boys are seen in the bath, but everything is covered.

Theological themes: Kiyoshi prays at his home shrine.

Negative themes: A good amount of the plot revolves around a certain plant from Earth that is like a drug to the aliens, the distribution of which is outlawed. One of the kids ends up selling some of it without realising what it really is. At one point Pochi goes gambling on the alien equivalent of a horse race.

Review Violence / Gore: Ame and Yuki have an intense fight in their wolf forms but their injuries and most other injuries are just shown as scratches. There's one instance of a kid's ear being injured and it bleeds realistically.

Nudity / Sexual Content: Hana and the wolf man never get married as far as I know. They're seen in bed together briefly but no detail's shown. There's a very brief shot of Hana's breast when she's breastfeeding Yuki.

Review Violence / Gore: There are some accidents during the cycling races, very little blood is seen.

Nudity / Sexual Content: Characters are seen in the bath a few times where some bottoms are briefly shown but that’s as far as it goes. This and other instances include shirtlessness from the guys. There are a scant few breast jokes. One character has a bit of a strange obsession with his own pecs.

Theological Themes: None

Negative Themes: Maybe some very mild swearing. I don't remember anything specific.
Yozakura Quartet: Hana no Uta (Jump to title)
- Overall: 8
- Violence Rating: 4
- Nudity Rating: 5
- Theological Themes: 4
- Other Negative Themes: 3
Review Violence / Gore: There are a lot of fights with characters using physical abilities and youkai powers. Sometimes accidents and fights result from youkai who cannot properly control their own powers. Some blood is shown throughout the series.

Nudity / Sexual Content: The fanservice content is rather high. A few of the female characters wear revealing clothing, there are panty-shots, strategically covered nudity, some innuendo and a couple of instances of characters, both male and female, groping other characters.

Theological Themes: The existence of youkai and a youkai world/dimension, which is connected to the town by sakura pillars/spirit trees. Most yokai and some humans have superpowers and Yuuhi and Yae are land gods who have been watching over the area for over 200 years. Yae dresses like a nun.

Negative Themes: Yuuhi (who has the appearance of a little kid) smokes constantly and other minor characters who are shown smoking. There is a scene with some moderate drinking, although (as part of the joke) some of the guys get drunk almost instantly.
Other activities: 2 records found.
