if you want my opinion, think of something else to spend your money on. online rpgs are a massive waste of time and life. They quickly become stuck in your head and then your sucked into it. Save yourself the money and three years of your lifespan. Get yourself warcraft 3 and or a dog.

Yeah i have seen some people like that :shake: all they do is spend there time playing the the game or talking about it that makes it rather hard to talk to people like that :bang: i thought some of them looked kind of neat though like ragnarok you recommend warcraft :eyebrow: i usually play starcraft and medal of honor though i do prefer to spend time with my dog than play computer games

I gotta agree with Lightbringer....
i was hooked on Ultima Online for a year or so.....finally got to a point when i had to decide whether or not i wanted a successful real life....or a successful fake life.
best advise i could give is to get into some semi-limited multiplayer RPG like Neverwinter Nights. People have set up persistant campaign worlds online for it, but they don't draw you in anywhere near as much as something like Everquest, UO, or that new Starwars game. plus Neverwinter Nights just rocks even if you're playing a solo game.

bah, Mmorpgs....... sorry i cant get extra groceries this week, i need to pay my gameing bill. not only are they way to adicting and most people are rude and vile on them, the extra gameing fee i dont care how much they say they need to keep their servers going, i know its alot more work then say Bnet but still, they should have thought of that before they made the game, wich they did, so that just means their greedy.
in closeing Mmorpgs = toilet paper

While everyone above has given good points, I would avoid the current mmorgs for one reason. THEY'RE BORING!!!!!!!!!!
For example, I played a bard on Everquest. My first and only 16 levels went like this.
1) Kill bees around Kelethin until level 3.
2) Kill orcs on orc hill until level 7.
3) Kill orcs in Crushbone until level 11.
4) Kill undead in Estate of Unrest until 16.
5) Get broom to sweep up TychoDust since I've died of boredom.
Most MMORGs start characters off at a pitiful level. Warriors can get killed by rats??? Almost every pen & paper RPG will give its starting characters an edge on the mundane. And the loot payoff is pitiful. You are always scraping for money in Everquest at the begining. You rarely get good equipment from the monsters. It does get better once you get a high level but that takes an enourmous amount of time.
My Suggestion: Play a pen and paper RPG online. It shouldn't be too difficult to find them. At least then you will have a real person GMing your adventures instead of random monster spawning. I would suggest www.starwarsclub.org for Star Wars RPGing. I would join the Imperial Starfighter Corps since I'm the XO there and we're the most active branch of the SWC.

I'm gonna have to agree, you spend more time trying to level up and worrying about what your gonna lose when you die rather than engaging in an experience. The most unique MMORPG by far has to be DAOC, it's completely unique, and every else is copying from them what they did in their game (which is massive battlefield engagements with hundreds of people with the use of forts and siege engines.). Just my 2 cents.

I wonder how many recovering MUDders we have around here.

*raises hand*
MUDding recovery -- yes, that is me. MMORPGs... I've played nearly every one out there up until the release of DAoC. I understand the draw of the game... and for those who do manage their time and resources, I suppose it's fine. For some people it is not. And my experience led me to the ultimate conclusion that it's all simply:
1- Too Costly -- the initial box price, expansions (because you'll HAVE to have them once you start playing), then add up the $10 a month and do the math...
2- Too Time Consuming... if you want to excell in the game in a timely manner, you've seriously got to put in far too much time... and even then it's always that struggle to get to the next level (as was mentioned above... often tedious and boring)
3- So a lot of games say there's socialization invovled. I guess that can be true. But a majority (not ALL but a LOT) of online gamers I've run across are just plain rude and ruin the game for others on purpose. I gave up paying my money just to spend my time running away from PKers back in the day of the old UO. :/
I got sucked into it a while back... for lack of other things in my life (such as good friends and true faith). It can be fun... but I suggest you go with games you don't have to pay to play (Warcraft, Dungeon Seige, NWN, etc.). You find a good party to play with in some of those, the concepts are similar, and you'll be liking your pocketbook much more. That's what I do time to time, and I find it much more reasonable in the end.
