Oh, I just LOOOOOOOVE this movie. I watched it almost every day for almost a year. Now, I know there are tons of historical inaccuracies--there was no such general named Maximus Decimus Meridius; legionnaires did not use their javelins as melee weapons; and Commodus actually won several gladiatorial battles before getting strangled to death by his wrestling partner; but WHO CARES? The acting is very good and the visuals are superb. I was on the edge of my seat in the very beginning when the Romans shot volley after volley of flaming projectiles and the close-quarter carnage that ensued; and Maximus! Woah! He fights like one crazy sunufagun!
Comments, anyone?

This is an excellent movie. It is gory a lot of the time, but still worth seeing if you can get past the bloodshed. it is one of the few hollywood movies i own. :)

I loved this movie..own it on DVD and have watched it in the last month or so. I loved just about everything about the movie...so far as to say I bought the soundtrack. I think this is without a doubt Crowes best film...and it ranks with Braveheart in my book. (Not quite sure which one I like more)

I loved Gladiator. My daughter made me buy it. Okay, I'm a very open and liberal mom, please no complaints. She watched the movie over and over and made us watch it over and over. The one very good thing is that we watched every special on Discovery channel and PBS about gladiators and early Rome, which helped out quite a bit in her studies. She's still into that time period at times, and watches anything she can on the Roman Empire and gladiators. Of course, after The Mummy she wanted to watch everything there was about Egypt.

I'm definately with Steve on this one--one of the best movies I've ever seen, and definately up there with Braveheart. Although the Latin student in me has to give way to the movie-lover in me when it comes to the historical fallacies. But yeah, in this case it's forgiveable. And the soundtrack...*sighs happily*
If you like this, I, Claudius is a pretty good tv series if you can find it edited (rampant nudity)

I agree with what everyone said here, the soundtrack is awesome, the beginning fight scene with the Romans and the barbarians was excellent, definately a great movie, and will surely be a classic.

:mutter: Anyone know if the rumors of a sequel are true?
I heard that Ridley Scott was taking it up as director, so it might not be so bad....

I hope not. Don't ruin this masterpiece of the cinema by tacky sequels.

Superb movie! This is most definitely one of my all-time favorites and it beats Braveheart by far, for me at least. Now, I love Braveheart and all, but it's not one of my top picks. Anyways, back to Gladiator, the sound track is excellent and one of my favorite scenes is the end, where they carry off Maximus and leave that “Caesar” guy in the dirt. I remember last year this was my Western Civ. teacher's favorite movie and he would play it almost every Friday while we worked on a history project.
“Are you not entertained?!”, was his favorite line.

I have seen bits and pieces of it. The bits and pieces that I saw seemed to impress me. The effects of violence that I saw was very impressive. I can say that it is a pretty good movie from what I have seen.

Gladiator is one of my favourite films. The characters were very well constructed.. I liked Commodus (the evil emperor guy).
Good effects and a really absorbing soundtrack too :)

I was imagining a mod for Diablo II that would involve a "Maximus" character class.
By the way, did you notice in that minute-long fight scene where he beats 6 guys, he knocks out a helmeted warrior WITH HIS LEFT HAND (and it's quite clear he's right handed)???
